India Sends Five Tonnes of Essential Medicines to Afghanistan, Reaffirms Commitment to Humanitarian Support and Healthcare Development

India has delivered five tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul and provided advanced medical equipment to strengthen Afghanistan’s healthcare system. The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to humanitarian assistance, healthcare support, development cooperation, food security, scholarships, and capacity-building initiatives for the Afghan people.

India on Wednesday delivered five tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the welfare and healthcare needs of the Afghan people.

Announcing the development, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement that India had delivered another consignment of five tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul, underscoring New Delhi’s enduring commitment to humanitarian assistance and the well-being of the people of Afghanistan.

The latest assistance follows India’s announcement on June 11 regarding the gifting of a wide range of medical equipment to Afghan health authorities aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare system. The equipment includes devices for diagnosis and treatment, neonatal and pediatric care equipment, cardiograph machines, ventilators, patient monitors, maxillofacial electrocautery systems, plastic surgery instrument sets, and specialised medical kits.

Sharing details of the initiative, Jaiswal stated that India remains committed to supporting Afghanistan’s health sector through the provision of advanced medical equipment designed to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and specialised medical care across healthcare facilities in the country.

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that India remains firmly committed to the welfare of the Afghan people and continues to focus on promoting peace, stability, and development in Afghanistan through sustained humanitarian assistance, development cooperation, and capacity-building programmes.

Addressing a weekly media briefing, Jaiswal referred to remarks made by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Afghanistan held on Monday. He stated that India’s position remains unchanged and continues to be centred on supporting the Afghan people.

Jaiswal emphasized that India and Afghanistan are neighbouring countries with deep civilisational ties spanning centuries. He noted that New Delhi continues to extend assistance through initiatives related to food security, healthcare support, and pharmaceutical aid. In addition, India remains engaged in providing scholarships and capacity-building opportunities to Afghan citizens.

The latest delivery of medicines and medical equipment highlights India’s sustained humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan and reinforces its broader commitment to supporting the country’s healthcare infrastructure, development needs, and long-term stability through continued assistance and cooperation.
